How to Care for a Leather Wallet (So It Lasts for Years)

Genuine leather is a natural material — treat it right and it outlasts almost anything synthetic; ignore it and even the best leather wallet will crack faster than it should, especially in Pakistan's heat and humidity. Here's how to actually take care of one.

1. Keep it dry

If your wallet gets wet (rain, sweat, a spilled drink), let it air-dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight. Never use a hairdryer or leave it on a radiator — fast heat-drying makes leather stiff and prone to cracking.

2. Don't overstuff it

Cramming extra cards, receipts, and loose change into a slim wallet stretches the stitching and leather at the seams faster than normal daily wear. Keep it to what it's actually designed to hold.

3. Avoid direct sunlight for long periods

Leaving a wallet on a car dashboard or in direct sun fades and dries out leather much faster than pocket or bag storage. This is especially relevant during Pakistani summers.

4. Condition it occasionally

A small amount of leather conditioner every few months keeps the material supple and prevents it from drying out and cracking — particularly useful in dry, dusty conditions. You don't need an expensive product; a basic leather conditioner from any shoe-care shop works fine.

5. Let it develop naturally

Genuine leather is supposed to darken slightly and develop a soft patina with use — that's not damage, that's the leather doing what it's meant to do. Don't try to "fix" natural color development; it's a sign of real leather, not a flaw.

Signs it's time for a new wallet

Cracking at the fold lines, peeling at the corners, or stitching coming loose are signs of wear that conditioning can't fully reverse. If you're seeing that, it may be time to browse our current wallet collection for a genuine leather replacement built to hold up longer.
